After several back and forth, a High Court in the Central Region, Cape Coast has declared the 2020 parliamentary election held in the Assin North Constituency as null and void and ordered a fresh re-run.
The ruling was given on Wednesday, July 28, 2021, by the court presided over by Justice Kwasi Boakye.

In his judgement, Justice Boakye upheld that, the National Democratic Congress’ 2020 parliamentary candidate for the constituency, Joe Gyaakye Quayson breached the provisions of the constitution with regard to dual citizenship.
With this ruling, the number of seats held by the NPP is now 139 including Fomena MP while NDC has 136.
The NDC has not officially commented on the development.
Before the judgement, the National Communication Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress Sammy Gyamfi lashed out at the Cape Coast court for frustrating the legal options of the NDC to favour the NPP in a bid to snatch the Assin North seat.
