Ghana Education Service has released the reopening date for second semester in the 2021 Academic year for year one Gold track and year two Green track, the final year students have completed their three-year secondary education, this has created over four hundred thousand space in the Senior High Schools in the country to ease congestion.
The double track system is a stop gap measure to deal with infrastructure and furniture problems in the Senior High Schools.
As the final year students are done with their West African Senior School Certificate Examination, the schools will have a full set of students for both year one and two. This is an opportunity for the students to meet their colleagues in the other tracks, these students can compare their notes and share ideas. There are more furniture, beds and space in the classrooms, the students will feel comfortable in the school.
The second year students in track green and first year students in track gold will report to school on Monday 1st November, 2021. Boarding students will report on Sunday 31st October, the second semester academic work will begin on 1st November,2021. Parents are to take note and prepare for their wards to return to school.
The new entrants for the Senior High schools will soon begin their Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), the first stage of their school placement has been completed, the students were given list of Secondary/Technical and Vocational Institutes to select five (5) schools based on their preferences, each student is mandated to select at least one day school in his or her district or catchment area.
Ghana Education Service has laid down plans to abolish double track system in most of the schools, infrastructural project has been completed in some of these double track schools, others are at the level of completion, if there will be double track in the 2022 academic year, the schools that will run double track will be less than hundred instead of four hundred Senior High Schools currently on double track.
After the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) students will be given the chance to confirm the five schools they have selected for placement, before the placement of students into the Senior High Schools are done.
The academic calendar was interrupted by the COVID-19 lock down, there have been changes in the academic calendar, Academic calendar now begins in January. The new entrants into the Senior High Schools will begin school on January, 2022. The school placement for the new entrants who are yet to write their Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) will be released in January, 2022.
The teachers who are currently teaching the year one green track are the same teachers who will be teaching the year two green track students, when teachers are over stressed, it affects their delivery in the classroom. Government should recruit more to teachers to support over-stressed teachers in our double track schools.
