Forgive our Headteacher – Families of drowned Saboba JHS pupils cry to court

Accra-based Okay FM is reporting that families of the Nine(9) children who lost their lives after a canoe transporting them to the rice farm of their headmaster in Saboba in the Northern Region of Ghana have asked the court to temper justice with mercy.

According to the report, the parents believe the Headmaster of the school Jashain Emmanuel, 35 did not intentionally take their children on the journey to kill them and have therefore forgiven him for any wrongdoing.

To the family, the people of Saboba are family and this is not the first time a teacher is sending his/her students to their farm to help in harvesting their produce.

They indicated that some of the time, because of their communal way of living, some students even organize themselves just so they could help out on the farms of their teachers and therefore if this has befallen them, they will leave everything into the hands of God.

Jashain Emmanuel the headmaster for the St Charles Lwanga R/C Junior High School sent 31 students to his farm to help in the harvesting of rice.

However, the canoe transporting the pupils capsized and led to ten of the pupils drowning. Nine of the bodies were found and have since been buried.

Jashain Emmanuel has been interdicted by the Ghana Education Service and has been remanded into prison custody by the Tamale Magistrate Court on Monday.

He is expected to reappear before the court Monday, November 29.
