Jomoro MP appeals against order to produce evidence of Ivorian citizenship renunciation

The Member of Parliament for Jomoro, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, who was expected to produce her Ivorian citizenship renunciation document to the Sekondi High Court  on Thursday, July 1, 2021, has rather filed a notice of appeal at the Sekondi High Court.

This comes after the MP filed a motion on notice for a stay of execution at the Court of Appeal in Cape Coast.

At the 22nd June 2021 sitting, the Sekondi High Court, presided over by Justice Dr. Richmond Osei Hwere, ordered the Member of Parliament for Jomoro, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, to produce her document of Ivorian citizenship renunciation for inspection within 10-days.

The order was the outcome of a case brought before the court by Joshua Emuah Kofie, a resident of Nuba-Mpataba in the Jomoro Constituency, who has accused the MP of holding dual citizenship prior to the 2020 election.

However, the MP’s legal team advised that she appeals the ruling.

The Court of Appeal has therefore set Monday, July 26, 2021, for the movement of the motion on the stay of execution.

In a related event, a Sekondi High Court has dismissed a motion to strike out the NDC’s petition challenging the Tarkwa-Nsuaem parliamentary election declaration for George Miraku Duker.

Lawyers of George Mireku Duker on June 22, 2021, filed a motion praying the court to dismiss the petition because the petition was not signed by the petitioner or their lawyers.

The court however dismissed Duker’s motion as the NDC’s Lawyer, Kwesi Dala Dalataa, had earlier filed an amendment of the petition.
