The national communications officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi is under a serious troll on social media for politicizing the painful death of George Floyd.
The very vocal politician took to his social media handles to share a cartoon which featured the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo and the Electoral commission boss, Mrs. Jean Adukwei Mensah.
The cartoonist drew a concept from the George Floyd incident in which the police officer knelt on his neck till death. In this context, Sammy Gyamfi is asserting that, the electoral commission is engaging in the same practice.
“Floyd was choked to death, while screaming for breathe. In GH today, the Jean Mensah led-EC is seeking to disenfranchise millions of eligible voters through a xenophobic voter register” he said.
This post did not go well with a lot of people on social media. The sentiment that dominated the criticisms is that, someone’s death cannot be used to score political points on any grounds, especially a situation that is causing major protests across the world.
However, the NDC Communications Director did not see anything wrong with the concept used by the cartoonist. he stated in a follow-up post that, there is “Nothing wrong with sharing a cartoon which draws a parallel between the painful xenophobic murder of George Floyd and the evil Attempt by the GH EC to disenfranchise millions of eligible voters”.
