The Regional Police Crime Officer, Superintendent Kwabena Otuo Achempong cautions the residents of Tamale on the emanation of car snatching incidents, especially Toyota 4×4 Hilux vehicles, in the region.
Supt. Kwabena Otuo Achempong said in a statement that;. “The latest incident happened on 19 June 2020 at Fuo in which there was an attempt to snatch a Toyota Hilux pick up vehicle.
He explained the mode of operations of these car snatchers to be that, two persons on motor bike will trail the unsuspecting driver to his house. When the driver gets down to open the house gate, at gun point, the vehicle is snatched from the individual.
“The mode of operation of this gang is for one or two persons of the syndicate to hire the services of a taxi cab to an unknown destination. In the course of the journey, other accomplices join to attack the driver and finally rob the vehicle at gunpoint. Police ascertained that when the vehicles are robbed, they are either dismantled and sold or sold as scrap, resprayed and also sold to other interested buyers who all use them to sometimes facilitate their robbery operations,” he added.
The Northern Regional Police Command has in records that, some few months ago, such crime emerged in the Tamale Metropolis, especially around School of Hygiene and Fuo communities.
The police in their efforts to combat the activities of these criminals, cautions the general public especially users of Toyota 4×4 vehicles to be watchful anytime they are driving and must stop at safe locations and call the police.
He further called on victims of car robberies to report to the Police Command to assist the Police to investigate and to identify and retrieve the vehicles.
