On 1st July, 2020 about 0400 hrs , an unknown gun man who had wanted to rape victim Rashida Abukari 18 in her room at Nyanshegu, shot her on the right thigh when she resisted.
Little Rashida had just lost her mother some few months ago and still in a mourning mood when this unfortunate incident happened.
“I was at sleep with my younger sister in our room when I sensed an intruder standing over my head with a gun. He requested to have sex with me but I declined. He told me if I refuse him, he will kill me outrightly. I realised he was desperate to rape me. I told him to take me to his house instead. He accepted my plea. We got to the compound and I felt to scream for a rescue. I screamed with my mouth at 360 degree and with all the loudest noise I could make. Little did I know Mr Abdul Halim who stays in the same house with me heard my cry.
The suspect who felt he could be apprehended shot me on my right leg and took to his heels.” Victim Rashida narrated.
The deceased, Abdul Halim Abubakari Chased suspect and got him at some few metres away from their house. The deceased struggled with the suspect for a while and could not achieve his aim. Suspect shot Abdul Halim twice on the hand and chest and took to his heels.
In a Police statement made by Supt Kwabena Otuo Achempong states that, the Police Crime Scene Management Team has been to the scene and has since launched investigations into the matter.
The Regional Crime Commander also said, the body of the deceased has been deposited at the mortuary waiting for autopsy to be done.
He added that, the attempted rape victim, Rashida who also attained some level of injury on the leg is in stable condition at the Tamale Teaching Hospital responding to treatment.
