Private legal practitioner, Lawyer Akwasi Amofa-Agyemang, has publicly declared his intention to contest the December election as an independent parliamentary candidate at Bekwai Constituency in the Ashanti region.
Mr. Amofa-Agyemang was disqualified from contesting in the New Patriotic Party primary in June, paving way for the incumbent, Joseph Osei-Owusu, who is also the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, to go unopposed.
Mr. Amofa-Agyemang said to the press the, following his disqualification, he received numerous calls to go independent.
Based on that, he said, he did extensive consultation with the family and opinion leaders leading to his conclusion to heed their calls.
According him, after going round the constituency and judging by the groundswell of support he received, he was certain of winning the parliamentary election on December 7.
Lawyer also added that, most of the Npp party’s members especially the youth has decided not to write their names and register to vote for Nana Addo in the coming 2020 general election, if he refuse Contest Bekwai Constitency Parliamentary seat as Independent candidate.
On this matter I have to step-in to contest and save the vote of Nana Addo and the Bekwai seat as well, lawyer says.
I and my campaign team will also be going to campaign for H.E. Nana Addo because am winning the seat for NPP.
He therefore called for Peaceful campaign and a peaceful election in Bekwai Constitency.
