Murtala Kevin Taylor, a member of LGBT+ Rights Ghana situated in the country’s capital, Accra, says that his life is in danger because of the recent happenings in the country and on social media about gays and their activities in Ghana. He says a lot of people are threatening him now, because of his affiliates with Alex Kofi Donkor the head and Director of LGBT+ Rights Ghana, a movement of mostly young Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals, Transgenders, Intersex, Queers and Allies championing a safe, inclusive and free society for LGBT+ persons in Ghana.
Mr. Murtala Kevin Taylor, said the situation he is in now is not good so he is hiding in an unknown village, that he did not want to mention the name, he in not having his freedom now as if he is a criminal, he cannot have his peace much more get a change to go play soccer his favorites sports. He said “People who I know and live with are now taking me as their enemy because they have seen that I am a member of the LGBTQI, why? Why cant some one have his feelings and do what he likes, you see I would have share with you my previous pictures and current ones for you to see how I am really suffering now, but I fear that when I do that I cant even stay at my hideout ”
Recently the Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Sarah Adwoa Sarfo, said in a video during her confirmation hearing on February 17 that Ghanaian laws against same-sex relationships are not up for debate when asked her stance on social protection for non-heterosexual people.
“The issue of LGBT is an issue that when mentioned creates some controversy, but what I want to say is that our laws are clear on such practices. It makes it criminal…to have unnatural carnal knowledge with another person, “Adwoa Sarfo said in the video.
“On the issue of its criminality, it is non-negotiable, on the issue of cultural acceptance and norms, these practices are also frowned upon. For me, these are two distinct clarity on the matter and this is what I strongly stand for,” she added.
