Anchoring Democracy Advocacy Movement Ghana, ADAM-GH, is a civil society organization that anchors proper democratic principles, ensures good governance, fights corruption, promotes the rule of law and fundamental human rights.
We will first of all applaud the government for being very truthful in the Bawku Chieftaincy matters and respecting the Supreme court’s decision on the said matter.
Government did not mince words in dealing with the matter and we believe peace loving people who used to listen to propaganda from both Bawku-based Mamprusis and Kusaasis concerning the Bawku situation have now cleared all ambiguity from their minds based on how the president and his ministers set the records straight this time around.
We are calling on the Attorney General to prosecute the 12 suspected warmongers who were arrested in Bawku for resurrecting the conflict. This will help serve as a deterrent to any group of people who have a similar agenda to disturb the peace of the area.
It is very unfortunate that some few people would use social media to incite violence occasioning over 30 deaths in Bawku, including a pregnant woman!!
Listening to the suspects’ wild claims on social media for resurrecting the Bawku Chieftaincy conflict actually undermines GHANA’S independence. Using the colonial principles or our slaves masters colonial inheritance to undermine Ghana’s independence, the Supreme court ruling and our Democratic values as a nation is something that we must not allow in this country. The laws of the country are Supreme and must be respected by all citizens.
ADAM-GH therefore wishes to applaud the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo and his government, for their commitment to clarifying any nebula around the Bawku Chieftaincy, making reference to the Supreme court ruling on the matter in a case brought before the honourable court in 2003. This is not only in the right direction but also encourages all people living in Bawku to respect the Supreme court’s ruling and to uphold the law. The President, and his government, has so far exhibited quality leadership and respect for the rule of law in the country regarding Chieftaincy affairs.
It is very unfortunate that some people, including the lawyer of the twelve (12) suspects, Lawyer Martin Kpebu, would ignore the fundamental human rights of the thirty young men including a pregnant woman who were murdered in cold blood through the actions of his clients (the 12 suspects) and be faulting government and security agencies for detaining the suspects.
If Lawyer Martin Kpebu thinks the fundamental human rights of the warmonger Naa Tampuri and his 11 elders must be respected, he should equally know that the 30 young men, including the pregnant woman who were murdered due to his clients’ actions, are also entitled to the fundamental right to life! .
The freedom of everyone living in Bawku, including the security personnel, has been abused through this conflict that has needlessly ushered in stringent security measures, curfew and movement restrictions and thereby increasing poverty and hunger .
