Member of Parliament(MP) for Ningo Prampram, Sam Nartey George says President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has succumbed to what he described as uneducated pressure reason he lifted the ban on religious organizations.
The President of Ghana in his tenth address to the country said a consensus has been reached after a broad stakeholder consultation and that Ghana intends to ease its restriction on a phase-based approach.
He said Religious activities in the country can start on June 5 with 25% attendance in both mosques and Churches. He used the opportunity to appeal to the citizenry to adhere to the various safety protocols to ensure that people are not infected.
But reacting to the announcement made by the President, Sam George said “What kind of meaningful Church service can you have with 100 people for a maximum of 1 hour? Mr President, you have unfortunately succumbed to uneducated pressure.
To him Churches and Mosques should remain closed and the President need not succumb to Pastors who are thinking of their parochial interest and not the interest of the people.
” Keep the Churches and Mosques closed!” he said.
The President also announced that political activities can take place except for political rallies. This paves way for the NPP and other political parties to elect their representatives for Parliament and their National Leadership.
