Freelance investigative reporter Manasseh Azure Awuni has run to the defence of Deputy Minister of Information, Pius Hadzide, over the Green Book controversy, saying that it was impossible for Mr Hadzide to defend a “lie” by President Akufo-Addo to the effect that infrastructural projects contained in the Green Book -a book cataloguing achievements of the National Democratic Congress(NDC) while it was in power – were fictitious and did not exist on the ground.

Pius Hadzide got trolled on social media for failing to point to one fictitious project that is contained in the Green Book but which does not exist in reality when he was offered the opportunity on Multimedia’s Newsfile programme Saturday, June 13.

His faltering, incoherent attempt to explain away the President’s claim that the NDC had merely compiled phantom projects in its Green Book attracted condemnation from many Ghanaians.

But Manasseh Azure Awuni has noted that because the President peddled falsehood, it was impossible for Mr Hadzide to defend the President in his debate against Felix Kwakye Ofosu on the programme, emphasising that not even the President could have defended himself if he had been offered the opportunity.

“Don’t blame Pius. Nana Akufo-Addo himself would have struggled. It’s difficult to defend a lie,” he wrote on social media.

President Akufo-Addo resurrected the debate on the Green Book when, while commissioning the Tema interchange Phase I,  repeated his claim that the book contained only non-existent projects.

But his Deputy Minister of Information was unable to point out one phantom project when the host of the show, Samson Anyenini, handed him a copy of  the book.
