The Ghana Police Service has deployed armed police officers to Kwahu Praso in the Kwahu West District of the Eastern Region as angry youth seized and burned mining equipment belonging to a mining company.
The charging youth who were protesting against mining in the community set fire into mining equipment including Tata Hitachi excavators and water pumping machines
Information reaching My News Ghana has it that the youth of the community have for a while now expressed their dissatisfaction over mining activities in the community which they have tagged as illegal.
Assemblymember for Atuobikrom Electoral Area, Anim Boateng confirmed that the company in attempt to restore calm to the community organized a stakeholders meeting which ended on a bad note as members of the community did want any form of mining activity going on in their community.
The mining company called the bluff of the members of the community to bring mining equipment to the community.
The youth of the community then got angry and burnt some fo the equipment.
Public Relations Officer of the Eastern Regional Police Commander, DSP Ebenezer Tetteh said that arme police personnel have been deployed to the community to restore calm .
