Former president of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama has disclosed that he has no plans of donating his three months salary to help fight the Coronavirus pandemic in the country. My News Ghana reports
The former president made this known in an interview monitored by MyNewsGhana.net. In the interview, John Mahama explained that donating future salaries won’t do any good to the situation at hand. He is of the belief that the situation at hand demands immediate measures and not future financing. “I would rather spend his money on procuring PPEs and sharing them among health workers and persons involved in clamping down the menace.” He Said
“What we need now are items and so if I have money I would rather prefer to buy Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) for frontline health workers and that’s what I’m doing at the moment. I am spending money on buying PPEs and distributing them. Somebody decides to donate his salary, that’s fine. Everybody does what he thinks he can do best to help. I believe that donating my salary in the future will not help.”
So far, Mr Mahama has donated some PPE’s and other stuff to frontline health workers. During one of the presentations, he wrote;
“SUPPORTING OUR HEALTH WORKERS
A total of 100 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and 100 pairs of Gum Boots were this morning presented to health workers at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, to support their work towards managing the COVID-19 disease.
The presentation is part of a total of 650 PPE and 650 gumboots I procured to be distributed to a number of medical facilities across the country.”
