Man arrested after Boris Johnson’s car involved in collision while leaving Parliament

A man has been arrested after Boris Johnson’s car was involved in a collision while leaving Parliament following Prime Minister’s Questions.

The prime minister was not injured in the collision which saw his silver Jaguar being “rear ended” by a Range Rover travelling behind.

A protester was was detained by police after he was seen running in front of the prime ministerial car as it left the Palace of Westminster.

 

 

 

 

 

 

In video posted on an anti-Brexit protester’s Twitter page a bang could be heard.

The man, who had been demonstrating about Turkey’s operation against Kurdish rebels in northern Iraq, was taken into the Palace of Westminster by officers.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed a man has been arrested for offences under Section 5 of the Public Order Act and for obstructing the highway following the collision on Wednesday afternoon.

A Number 10 spokesperson confirmed the car was Mr Johnson’s, adding: “I think the video speaks for itself as to what happened. No reports of anybody being injured.”

The spokesperson said Mr Johnson was travelling in the car at the time.

A statement from the Metropolitan Police said: “At approximately 14:30hrs today, 17 June, two police vehicles were involved in a collision in Parliament Square.

“The police vehicles were part of a security movement. A pedestrian is reported to have stepped onto the road, causing the vehicles to suddenly stop, which has led to two of the vehicles in the convoy being involved in a damage-only collision.

“No injuries have been reported.

“A man, no further details at this time, was arrested at the scene for offences under Section 5 of the Public Order Act and for obstructing the highway.

“All vehicles were able to drive from the scene.”
