NDC to petition Otumfuo over alleged election irregularities in A/R

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti Region say they are set to petition the overlord of Ashanti, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, over what they suspect to be irregularities in Monday’s elections.
The move, they maintain, is to call on the Asantehene to intervene in what they describe as boiling tensions looming in Ashanti Region and parts of the country in order to ensure that the right things are done.
NDC’s Ashanti Region Chairman Augustus Nana Akwasi lamented “there are several infractions and irregularities that have transpired at almost all the polling stations across the country and as peace-loving citizens of this country, we want to use the appropriate channels but first we will march from Asawase to Manhyia Palace to put before the Asantehene our petition”.
The NDC secured 503,368 votes in Ashanti Region in the 2016 election but was able to scale up the figures in 2020 to 605, 3159, an increase of 3 percent, therefore bettering their previous performance.
He further charged the NDC members to converge at Asawase on Sunday and march to the seat of the Overlord of Ashanti Kingdom to present to him their petition over some of the inconsistencies they believe affected their success in both presidential and parliamentary election.
Despite not disclosing exactly what their intended petition to Otumfuo will be, the NDC regional chairman maintained that “the national executives of the party have been working on the issues but we in the Ashanti Region feel it appropriate to officially call on the Otumfuo to intervene”.
