General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Asiedu Nketia has alleged that because of former President John Agyekum Kufuor’s failure to hand
Making reference to the current happenings in Tain which he described as similar to what happened in 2008, Mr Asiedu Nketia blamed the former Member of Parliament for the area, Joe Danquah, for the present happenings.
“Before we went to the Tain by-elections, President Kufuor said whoever will win Tain he will hand over power to him. Because of that, President Kufuor and Nana Addo fought in Busia’s house at Wenchi in the midst of some NPP top officials who were going to Tain for the by-elections. That is why they didn’t go to Tain at all for the by-elections”, he revealed on Accra-based Asempa Fm monitored by MyNewsGh.com
The NDC General Secretary added “Nana Addo believed that President Kufuor should have used incumbency to get the elections in his favor. But they fought at Busia’s house and because of that none of the NPP top officials were at Tain.”
“If you remember, I also took the lead to Tain which is my backyard when Afari Gyan called for the by-elections. I told my people that when anyone comes to misbehave they should prevent them. Soldiers who were with 3BN also thoroughly searched the vehicles of people entering Tain so they don’t carry ammunition. That is why their [NPP] vigilantes couldn’t enter Tain, “he emphasized.
He also alleged that Tain was an agenda for the NPP to use violence to create chaos and steal the elections.
“But the community stood against it. If not for the activeness of the 3rd infantry battalion something else will have happened”, he further said.
The NPP eventually lost the Tain by-elections and consequently lost power to the NDC’s late Professor John Atta-Mills.
